What Does It Taste Like?

This easy apple smoothie is a healthy and delicious way to enjoy the cosy flavours of fall. Made with just three wholesome ingredients—fresh apples, a dash of cinnamon and creamy almond milk—it’s naturally sweet, dairy-free and full of seasonal goodness. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast, a light snack or a nutritious treat, this smoothie brings all the comfort of autumn without any extra fuss.

Ingredients

  • Apples – Fresh apples provide a crisp and refreshing base for this smoothie, ensuring a wholesome and satisfying treat. The best apple variety depend on the flavour and texture you’re going for, but I like to use sweet apples (more details below).
  • Cinnamon – Cinnamon adds depth and richness to the flavour profile, evoking the comforting taste of homemade apple pie.
  • Milk: Serves as the liquid base of this smoothie. You can use your favourite plant-based milk, such as soy, almond or oat milk, or dairy milk. I made it with unsweetened almond milk.

Best Apples for Smoothies

  • Fuji – They’re naturally sweet and juicy, which means you might not even need any added sweetener. Perfect for a dessert-like smoothie.
  • Gala – Sweet, a bit milder than Fuji and budget-friendly. They’re usually my go-to option for smoothies.
  • Honeycrisp – Sweet-tart and super refreshing. They blend really well and make the smoothie more refreshing.
  • Pink Lady – Quite sweet, but with a noticeable tartness. They’re great for a smoothie with a bit more complexity.

Extra Tips

Leaving apple peels on – Whether you choose to leave the peels on or peel your apples is entirely up to you. However, retaining the peels adds extra fibre, vitamins A and C, and antioxidants to the smoothie, enhancing its nutritional value and texture. If you’re leaving the peel on, make sure to use organic apples and wash them well.

Milk selection – Opt for unsweetened almond milk to maintain the delicate balance of flavours in the smoothie. Its mild taste allows the natural sweetness of the apples and the aromatic notes of cinnamon to take centre stage.

Apple Smoothie FAQs

Can I make the smoothie ahead of time?

Smoothies are best enjoyed fresh to maintain their colour and texture. If you absolutely have to make it in advance, store it in the fridge and give it a good shake before consuming as separation may occur.

Do I have to peel the apples?

Peeling is optional. If you’re using a high-powered blender and organic apples, leaving the skin on adds extra fibre and nutrients. For a smoother texture, especially with a less powerful blender, peeling might be a better option.

Is this apple smoothie healthy?

Yes! Apples are rich in dietary fibre, which supports digestive help, plus they provide vitamin C and antioxidants. Cinnamon helps to lower blood sugar levels, has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. The smoothie is also low in fat and naturally sweet.

Can I make it without dairy?

Absolutely! I made it with almond milk, but soy milk, oat milk, or any other dairy-free milk you like to use will work as well. I don’t recommend making it with water though, as the flavour and texture might be too bland.

Can I add any other ingredients?

Sure! You can add chia seeds, ground flaxseeds or oats for extra fibre, a tablespoon of nut butter (like almond, peanut or cashew) for extra creaminess, or unflavoured protein powder for added protein.
