    With only 10 minutes of prep time, you can enjoy crispy French fries that are homemade, waaaaay lower in fat than your usual fries, and donโ€™t leave your kitchen smelling like a fast food joint.

    How to Make Super Crispy Oven Fries with Cornstarch

    Letโ€™s get straight to the point โ€“ the secret is in microwaving the fries before you bake them. Hereโ€™s a quick breakdown of how to get the crispiest oven baked fries:

    1. Cut the potatoes into ยผโ€ณ thick fries.
    2. Place in a microwaveable bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave for 3 to 5 minutes.
    3. Mix olive oil, cornstarch, sea salt and garlic powder in a bowl.
    4. Evenly coat the fries in the oil and cornstarch mixture.
    5. Distribute the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake at 450ยบF for 30 minutes, flipping them halfway through.

    Tips for Making the Crispiest Oven Baked Fries

    There are a few essential tricks that make these oven baked fries crispier than most:

    • Microwaving the fries before baking them really makes all the difference in the world.
    • Coating the fries in a mixture of oil and cornstarch creates a thin layer that gives them that extra crunch.
    • Baking on high temperature nicely browns the edges (the crunchiest part).

    Ingredients

    • 4 medium (4 large) white or russet potatoes
    • โ…› cup (27g) olive oil
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    • 1 pinch sea salt
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

    • Scrub your potatoes and/or peel if desired. Cut them into ยผโ€ณ thick fries.
    • Place the fries in a microwave-safe bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the thickness of your fries. Carefully remove the wrap and pat them dry with paper towels if needed.
    • Mix olive oil, cornstarch, sea salt and garlic powder in a medium-sized bowl.
    • Evenly coat the fries in the oil and cornstarch mixture.
    • Distribute the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake at 450ยบF/220ยบC for 15 minutes. Pull the sheet from the oven, gently move the fries around with a metal spatula, and bake for another 15 minutes. Serve straight away.
